The Bhogapuram International Airport is about to take off as the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) under the ministry of environment and forests has recommended the airport project for environmental clearance. Post the EAC meeting held in Delhi, it has recommended the Bhogapuram project for clearance.
The EAC has recommended the Bhogapuram International Airport for Phase-I development at an estimation of Rs. 2,260.73 crores on an area of 2,004.52 acres in Vizianagaram district. Reportedly, according to the recommendation of the EAC the environmental clearance is most likely to be provided soon.
However, the Bhogapuram International Airport Corporation Limited (BIACL) is expected to finalise the bids in the next couple of months for selecting the developer for this mega project. A government source reportedly said that once the official environmental clearance order is received, about one month or 45 days will be given for the prospective developers to submit their final bids for the Bhogapuram Airport project. They also said that they are expecting the bids to be finalized by the end of June.
This current proposal which has been recommended by the EAC has the airport project which will be developed to cater the operation of Airbus-A380 type aircraft. It will also involve the construction of a new runway with facilities like terminal building, apron, taxi track and parking facilities. This proposed airport site is around 45kms from Vizag and 25 kms from Vizianagaram. It is also said that during the construction phase there will be a need of around 1,100 man-power , 500 daily labourers, 500 residential labourers and 100 officials are likely to be employed.
