IPL 2018 schedule out: Mumbai to host Chennai in the opener

The world’s biggest cricketing extravaganza, Indian Premier League (IPL), is all set to get rolling for its 11th edition. The mega event, which is awaited by fans all across the globe, has its schedule out with the first match set to be played on April 7th, 2018. Defending Champions Mumbai Indians will be locking horns with M.S Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings, in what promises to be a cracking opener for the tournament.

This year’s edition of the IPL will witness the comeback of two famous teams, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), after an exile of two years. The tournament will consist of a total of 60 matches spread across 9 venues over a span of 51 days. While the venues for the eliminator and qualifier 2 haven’t been finalised yet, the opening game, qualifier 1 and the finale will be played at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede stadium.

Much similar to each year, the star-studded opening ceremony will be held a day prior to the first match, on April 6th.

However, much to the disappointment of the fans in Visakhapatnam, this year’s schedule too hasn’t allocated a match to the city. Visakhapatnam’s Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy stadium hosted matches over the previous editions of the IPL, where the fans were treated to some high-voltage matches and got the chance to witness their favourite superstars live in action.

Visakhapatnam last played host to an IPL match back in 2016 where M.S Dhoni took Punjab’s Axar Patel to cleaners in the last over and handed over a memorable victory for the Rising Pune Supergiants in a nail-biter.
