Chief Minister of AP N Chandrababu Naidu stated yesterday that the international terrorist outfit ISIS was spreading its activities in the state. He said, “ISIS..slowly it is establishing its activities. If you sanction Rapid Action Force, it will go a long way to control ISIS.” to Union Minister Rajnath Singh.
He went on to state that 60 acres of land has been allotted in Visakhapatnam to the RAF. He also wants to establish an additional battalion of Central Reserve Police Force to battle Left Wing Extremism. He wanted the centre to allocate a budget of Rs 850 crore for setting up a state-of-the-art Greyhounds facility in the state.
While there’s no news if the centre is taking any of this into consideration, the statement has reportedly left the police baffled. They are working hard to dispel the notion that there is any ISIS activity happening in the state, and trying to prove there hasn’t been any trace of it so far.
Sources in the NIA told The Quint, “There could be one or two sympathisers (of the outfit) in Hyderabad (common capital of Telangana and Andhra for 10 years), but not in AP.” An Additional General of Police-rank officer stated that there’s no trace of ISIS in AP and what the CM said might just be an ‘apprehension’.
RAF is technically an anti-riot force so the Additional DGP seems confused as to why it will be used to fight ISIS. The police reportedly stated that maybe he got confused between SIMI and ISIS. Recently, SIMI terrorists arrested in Pune stated they used to hold meetings in Visakhapatnam by the beach.
