From checking social media accounts early in the mornings to binge-watching TV series until late in the nights, many youngsters, especially those working in corporate sectors, have grown addictively accustomed to their mundane lifestyles. While most of these job holders work in our top country’s top metropolitan cities, where traffic congestion and long distances make their hectic routines tougher, tier-II cities like Vizag, thanks to their nature escapades and a comparatively easier way of life, offer some respite to many. Here is the opinion of a young IT employee who recently left Vizag for a job in a metro city.
“When I got to learn that I’d be kickstarting my professional career from one of India’s most popular metropolitan cities, a sense of pride took over me. The thoughts of taking strides along with a bustling corporate crowd and experiencing the brisk-paced life excited me big time. However, little did I know what I’d be missing once I boarded the train and bid adieu to Vizag.
After beginning my spree at the new cit, it didn’t take me much long to figure out myself as an alienated fish in foreign waters. While for the outer world, I appeared as the “happy-going boy-next-door”, my inner self had something else to share. As if my run-of-the-mill job didn’t frustrate me already, the lack of nature getaways, where I could embrace my solitude, made things worse.
How dearly do I miss riding my bike on the beach road late in the nights? From stretching for the whole month on a few bucks of pocket-money to planning those epic one-day trips to Araku and Lambasingi with my group of friends, life was so very easy when in Vizag. Even though I was a student back then, I’m pretty sure being an employee in Vizag too is nothing less of a blessing!
But then again, as most of the guys from my lot would say, I have been ‘going along with the flow’ for the past one year. While some of my friends suggest to leave my job and get back to Vizag, only do I know about my insecurities and self-esteem issues. I wish Vizag had more job opportunities in various sectors.
Happy living to all those in Vizag. Trust me, it’s one of the best cities to live in and hope its sheen is maintained for many more years to come.”
This is an opinion submitted by an IT employee who was a resident of Vizag for many years before he moved out of the city for his career.
