It’s been more than one and half years that the proposal for an IT Layout was put in. The project though is yet to take off in Kapuluppada in Vizag.
The IT Layout was planned to be developed on 400 acres of land in phases. The project was what would attract IT companies to set up branches in Visakhapatnam. The reasons for the project’s delay is that the state government is yet to approve the proposal sent in by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) for providing basic amenities at the proposed land.
The proposal states that Rs 12 crore is required for laying roads and providing drainage on 250 acres out of the 400 acres in the first phase. The overall cost for the work required on the IT Layout, including broadband connectivity and infrastructure with other facilities like water and power, stands at Rs 30 crore.
The approval is yet to come in from the state government for the development work to be done at the IT Layout. The tender has already finalised for the work three months ago, the only thing left is the approval. An IT department official reportedly said that the development of the Layout was to be taken on a PPP mode, however due to lack of interest, the state government is now looking for alternate investments.
Private investments were invited for the overall development of the project twice, but there has been no interest shown. So now discussions are being held on how to go about the project. But according to TOI, the project was shelved on the request from IT companies so as to attract small, medium and large enterprises in the city.
