The IT tower planned by the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has been shelved for nearly two and a half years.
In the presence of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and the then Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on February 18, 2016, the MoU has been signed in Vizag for the Jumbo-shaped structure. Various departments have agreed to spend Rs 62.7 Crore on the construction.
Also, VMRDA has allocated 1.2 for the construction near Siripuram.
An official on anonymity has told The Hindu, “We are keen on pursuing the project, but it is not taking a concrete shape due to the political differences between the BJP and the TDP.”
The tower, if constructed, would provide employment to over 5,000 people and fetch a turn over of Rs 500-600 Crores.
The IT Minister of Andhra Pradesh Nara Lokesh during his recent visit to the city has mentioned that the IT Investment Region (ITIR) proposal in Visakhapatnam has been shelved due to change in the policy by the Centre.
