Jan Aahar canteen in Visakhapatnam railway station ceased

Railways are our country’s largest network. They’re the most widely used means of transport for commuting across various places. Additionally, many passengers get their food packed from any railway canteen for their journies. While these food stalls have been trusted by most of us, a recent incident in Vizag has put the railway authorities to shame.

The details of canteen shut down

Many of you must have seen the video where certain workers of the Jan Aahar canteen have been caught following unacceptable practices while packing food. A worker is seen re-parcelling the food from the floor of the railway platform.

The video, which was recorded by a passenger, went viral on social media platforms. It created a rage among the people. Eventually, the matter went to the notice of the CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General). The CAG officials, along with other higher authorities, have ceased the license of the Jan Aahar Canteen (Mahadev Agency). This canteen is located on the first platform of our Railway station.

The joint security commissioner of the Railway protection force (RPF), Amitdas, reached the Railway station on Thursday night.  He gave the orders to shut down the Jan Aahar canteen immediately. The orders were given in the presence of the station’s director Diwakar Panda.

Subsequently, they informed that Jan Aahar has failed to maintain the required standards in maintaining quality and hygiene. As a result, the officials said, the canteen had to be ceased.

Jan Aahar’s explanation

After the video went viral on Social media, Jan Aahar tried to come forward with an explanation. They said that the video was an old one and has resurfaced again on social media. As a matter of fact, they even said that the food’s quality has been maintained ever since the video first came into circulation.

There have been many complaints on Jan Aahar in the past. Many officials from RPF and other sections have expressed their discontent over the canteen food. In fact, as many as 223 cases have already been registered on Jan Aahar.
