Joint Commissioner, Central Tax & Customs, Visakhapatnam Zone, JM Kishore, received the coveted Presidential Award of Appreciation Certificate and Medal, from the Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Ms Nirmala Sitharaman. This award was given to the officers and staff of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) for ‘Specially Distinguished Record of Service’.
JM Kishore was selected for the Presidential Award on the basis of his exemplary performance in his respective field of service over the years. ‘Specially Distinguished Record of Service’ takes into consideration officers who have consistently performed with distinction in their various assignments. These include prevention of smuggling, detection of tax evasion, detection of trade-based money laundering and foreign exchange violations. Additionally, the other aspects reviewed are contributions in tax policy formulation, revenue mobilization, and automation of business processes, and capacity building and training.
This is not the first time that the Commissioner has received national recognition. In January 2006, in an international online competition organised by World Customs Organisation (WCO), JM Kishore secured sixth place. Amongst the top 10, he was the only representative from the Indian Customs and Excise Department.
Subsequently, in 2013, JM Kishore also received a Certificate of Merit from the World Customs Organisation.
On the work front, earlier last year, considering the then prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation in the country, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) had nominated certain nodal officers in each zone to facilitate Customs related matters. Accordingly, JM Kishore had been nominated as the nodal officer for Customs trade facilitation in Visakhapatnam Zone, covering the entire state.
