Kavita Devi is has become the first Indian woman wrestler to sign for WWE. The former weightlifter and South Asian games gold-medalist, is now the center of the historic development with the popular wrestling company. In the past, it was The Great Khali and Jinder Mahal who had represented India at the wrestling extravaganza. Now, it is Kavita’s turn to give another reason for the Indian fans to rejoice. This news was confirmed by Jinder Mahal on his visit to India to promote the upcoming event of WWE’s India tour which will be held on the 8th and 9th of December.
Kavita, who hails from Haryana, began her wrestling career under the guidance of The Great Khali at his academy Punjab. The wrestler also holds the credit for being the first Indian to compete in a WWE ring at the Mae Young Classic Women’s Tournament. She is set to begin her training at the company’s Performance Center in Orlando, Florida from January.
A report in Indian Express quoted Kavita saying that it has been her pleasure to be the first Indian woman to compete at a World Wrestling Entertainment event. The wrestler now aims to emerge as the first WWE Women’s Champion from India.
Jinder Mahal, who is currently the champion on Smackdown Live, was very happy with the development and said, “I’m extremely proud to welcome Kavita to WWE. She now has a great opportunity to become India’s first female WWE Superstar. She is an inspiration to the youth of India and I wish nothing but success for her”.
