On 9 November, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik to discuss the long-pending issues between the two states. On this account, the Chief Ministers, YS Jagan and Naveen Patnaik had a two-hour-long meeting in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening. They issued a joint statement to this effect at the end of their discussion. The two states have extended full cooperation and assistance, a fact borne out during the natural disasters in the past, as the two states not only share borders but also a long and glorious history and heritage, the statement read.
#1 The Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have decided to work closely on resolving the menace of ganja cultivation.
#2 The dispute over the ownership of 16 out of 28 villages of Kotia between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh was brought up at the meeting. During the bilateral discussion, they decided to work collectively on resolving the contentious Kotia border villages issue.
#3 The CMs further agreed to extend support to each other on the construction of Neradi barrage on river Vamsadhara, Janjhavati reservoir, release of water from Bahuda river, and the Polavaram multipurpose project.
#4 It was also agreed by the two chief ministers to issue no objection certificates for the Balimela and Upper Sileru projects in the energy sector.
#5 The Chief Ministers have further decided that Chief Secretaries of both the states will set up an institutional mechanism to deliberate on outstanding issues and find a solution that is in the best interest of the people of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
#6 The two states would also work towards setting up a chair for Odia and Telugu languages at the BR Ambedkar University (at Etcherla, Srikakulam) and Berhampur University respectively.
