Like Sisindri these Telugu movies were also adapted from the West

All of us know Nagarjuna’s Sisindri is an adoption of the famous 1994 Hollywood movie Baby’s Day Out. But did you also know that there are many Telugu movies that have been inspired and adapted from various western storylines for the Telugu audience? You will be shocked to know that these movies were not originally written but became blockbusters here in Andhra Pradesh. As the stories and screenplay were altered to the local needs, it was very shocking for us too.

Here is a list of Telugu movies adapted from the West.

#1 Evaru

The 2019 thriller starring Adivi Shesh and Regina Cassandra in lead roles is inspired by the Spanish movie The Invisible Guest. With inspiration from the basic storyline, the director Venkat Ramji made nearly 70 per cent changes in Telugu. The roles were interchanged and the plot was completely different. But the idea of revenge remains the same.

#2 Agnyathavaasi

The action entertainer starring superstar Pawan Kalyan was believed to be very similar to the French movie Largo Winch. The Telugu version of the movie also landed in some controversy as the Spanish director tweeted regarding the same. However, the plot of the movie is comparatively different from the original. The antagonist roles are changed and backgrounds are suited to local tastes. The Telugu version is directed by Trivikram Srinivas.\

#3 Kumari 21F

Heavily inspired by the French movie Laila Says and the Spanish movie The Secret in their Eyes, the Telugu version is said to have used a mix of these two storylines. The first half of the Telugu version revolves around a girl who comes to a new neighbourhood and falls in love with a boy who lives with his mother, similar to the French movie. The background of the male lead is a little different in comparison. The climax of the movie is said to be inspired by the Spanish movie. The Telugu version of the movie is directed by Palnati Surya Pratap and is written by ace director Sukumar. The movie made a lot of buzz in Tollywood.

#4 Maryada Ramanna

Directed by the famous director S S Rajamouli, this movie is inspired by the 1923 American silent comedy Our Hospitality. The team who initially wanted to buy the rights to the English version did not find luck in locating anyone related to it. The Telugu version starring Sunil is packed with comedy and is a family entertainer suitable to the needs of the Telugu audience. The movie was a big hit at the box office.

#5 Pilla Zamindar

Inspired by a Korean movie, this Telugu version starring Nani was a super hit at the box office. The storyline of the path to becoming a millionaire is what is adapted from the Korean version, emotions, love, human bonds are all elements added by director G. Ashok. With more scenes catering to the tastes of the locals, this movie stood to be one of the best in Naani’s career.

#6 Ghajini

Inspired by the famous movie Memento directed by Christopher Nolan, the Telugu version made it huge at the box office changing Surya’s career. Director of the Telugu version A.R. Murugaoss adapted just the concept while he gave his own touch to cater for the taste of the South. The movie which was a superhit was also remade in Hindi.
