Veteran BJP leader LK Advani has reportedly extended his support to the state of Andhra Pradesh. Advani, who was detailed by the TDP MPs regarding the cause for the protests in the parliament over the past five days, said that justice needs to be done to Andhra Pradesh. He also said that there is a need for mutual respect and the decorum of the House needs to be maintained.
“Justice has to be done to AP. Everyone, respect each other, and the dignity of the House should be maintained,” Mr. LK Advani was quoted as saying.
Reports also stated that the senior politician expressed dismay over the attitude adopted by the centre towards Andhra Pradesh. It has also been learned that he had spoken to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over the issue and tried to gain further insights.
Meanwhile, the TDP MPs looked determined to continue with their protests if the centre failed to fulfill the promises made to Andhra Pradesh during the state bifurcation in 2014.
In addition to the Special Railway Zone, the state government had also urged the centre to release funds for the purposes of Amaravati, Kadapa Steel Plant and a railway division for the stretch between Vijayawada and Guntakal. The centre, however, hasn’t allocated “sufficient funds” and the leaders feel, the Modi government has handed over a “betrayal” to the people of Andhra Pradesh.
The leaders from Andhra Pradesh, over the past few days, have been staging vociferous protests in both the houses of the Parliament. TDP MP N Sivaprasad even dressed up as a ‘tantrik’ and staged a unique protest near the Gandhi statue outside the Loksabha.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi too extended his support to the cause of the Andhra Pradesh MPs and tweeted, “The Congress Party supports the just demands of the people of Andhra Pradesh for special category status and speedy completion of the Polavaram project It’s time for all parties to unite on this issue and support this call for justice. #INCStandsWithAndhra.”
