A masjid is a holy prostration and a sacred destination of Muslims. The Ukkunagaram masjid is another apex on the pious lands of Visakhapatnam which has no parallel in beauty and tranquility. Extended to half an acre it is located in the sector 6 of Ukkunagaram, the city corner where serenity and freshness go hand in hand. The summit stands solitary, diffusing the air of amity and blithe is constructed on a raised platform with two minarets during 1988 with the contributions of the steel plant employees.
It is believed that the framework of life is faith, prayer, and compassion to the needy, self-purification and the pilgrimage to Makkah, obligatory to all the believers which virtually meets aspects of life and society. The direct knot between the god and the worshipper is salat. It is a name for the obligatory prayers performed five times a day. They are accomplished at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset and nightfall, and thus determine the rhythm of the entire life. The mosque is crowded during these prayers called salat and the holy reciting echoes to the residents in the vast society to sprinkle holy happiness.
Allah is the Protector of those who have faith: from the depths of darkness He will lead them forth into light. Of those who reject faith the patrons are the evil ones: from light they will lead them forth into the depths of darkness. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell therein – Quran
As it stands today, the mosque has an explicit marble prayer hall projecting towards the rising sun, east which can accommodate more than 200 worshippers. The prayer hall is open 24 hours a day for the people who prayer in unity. The heart of the mosque is a small marble pulpit which is decorated with divinely carved shapes of flowers and flora. Ramzan and Bakrid are celebrated with dedication and adherence. It is during these days hundreds of worshippers visit the twenty four year old architecture, perform invocations and complete their day.
A very spacious parking place is made available near the entrance for both two and four wheelers for the visitor’s convenience added to this a bus stop is also located few meters away. The zephyr surrounding the solitary edifice illuminates the interiors though the windows more than the beautifully decorated glass lights from the ceiling of the roof. The numerous huge coconut plantations in the other parts of the arena add to the expanse’s serenity. To enhance knowledge and awareness, a book store and a library with numerous books ranging from religion to spirituality focusing on both young and elderly minds are being constructed beside the mosque arena.
