The Rohit Memorial Trust conducted an awareness campaign about menstruation under the aegis of its Gyanlakshmi Project for the adolescent girl children of the Visakha Seva Sadan School, Ram Nagar. Dr. Sita Kalyani, eminent gynaecologist, who also runs the Bharathi Hospital, delivered a lecture on genital and menstrual hygiene, stressing the need to use proper sanitary napkins to prevent cervical cancer.
She also explained how to conduct a self examination to detect breast cancer at an early stage so that measures could be taken to eradicate it. The Trust members distributed 2500 sanitary napkins (equivalent to 3 months supply) free of cost to the children.
The campaign was attended by the Project Director of the Trust, Ms.Gurmeet Kohli, Trust Vice Chairman, Dr. Meenakshi Anantram, and Trustees.
The Trust established nine years ago to keep alive the memory of a strapping young lad, Rohit Anant Ganapati, has been carrying out various activities for social upliftment, especially in the areas of cancer awareness and women empowerment.
