South India is a huge part of the nation and unlike any other state, it has its own culture and ways to operate. The people, the food, the attire etc is sure different to the people living in other northern states but the way South Indians are put down and made fun of is totally wrong. There are some standard misinterpretations set up by people just to entertain themselves and these misinterpretations have created a false image about the southern states in the northern part of the country. Here are some such things that people believe are true about South India but are totally FALSE. Follow up.

Idli is the staple food of South India

Idli is ofcourse a main part of the breakfast but we obviously do not live on idli. We have many other rice items which are very delicious and even people from North won’t stop relishing on them. Besides, Hyderabad is famous for its Biryani which again falls in South.

Every South Indian is dark skinned

Seriously! This is the most stupid thing that people assume to be true. Due to weather conditions, people who continuously work in the sun are tanned but this does not mean than everybody is dark skinned. South Indians are known for their beautiful and clean skin so this rumor is absolute hopeless.

South Indians speak English/Hindi is a different tone

Unlike every other state, we do speak with a particular slang but that does not mean we talk bad English. It is very unfair the way Bollywood movies showcase people from South speaking in a particular tone while we do not follow it at all. Time to grow up fellas.

Every man in South wears a LUNGI

Lungi is traditionally worn by many men on several auspicious occasions and even in daily lives. It is indeed comfortable but not everybody prefers to wear one. People are seen wearing trousers, jeans etc more than those who wears lungi. Also, there is no harm to wear something comfortable but these categorizing needs to stop.

Every language in South India is ‘Yengad Pongad’

This misinterpretation makes no sense so don’t even get me started. There are several languages spoken in South and each of them is very beautiful to listen and talk. Southern languages are filled with respect and love and ‘yengad pongad’ is no real word.

Everybody has a white Teeka on their forehead

White Teeka is seen as a blessing from god and is put in temples. Yes, people do put Teekas on temple visits but not always. I mean, you cannot find a guy/gal with a teeka grooving in club {no harm in that though}.

South Indians are very conservative

South Indians are in fact one of the most modern communities in India. A lot of south Indians support LGBTQ community, accept inter cast marriages and are very free minded when it comes to girl raising and educating. They carry all new trends while keeping up with their tradition at the same time and are hence excelling in all the fields. Can you argue to that?

It is needed that we stop categorizing and stereotyping people and start living on real terms rather than reel. Don’t you agree!
