With cloudy skies and cool winds coming in Vizag this weekend, after a dry spell, everyone is wondering when rainfall will return to this coastal city. There are also questions over when the Retreating Monsoon will hit Vizag. But glad tidings arrive.
According to Andhra Pradesh Weatherman, Sai Praneeth, a low pressure area has formed in the Bay of Bengal which is headed for the Andhra Pradesh coast. “While the brunt of this low-pressure area is pointing towards Southern Andhra Pradesh, with Nellore and Prakasam Districts expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next 3 days, moderate spells of rain are coming towards Visakhapatnam as well.”
Accordingly, moderate rainfall is expected in the city on Friday morning. From then on, regular spells of rainfall are expected in Vizag for the next 4-5 days, stretching over this entire weekend. Although the rain is expected to be moderate, there is a slight chance of the rain intensifying and hence, all fishermen in Visakhapatnam have been advised not to venture into the sea for the coming few days. However, windspeed is not expected to exceed 25 kmph in this time period.
Vizag has received below-normal rainfall this October. Talking about this, Mr. Praneeth explains, “Despite the effects of Cyclone Gulab, and a low-pressure area later, rainfall in Visakhapatnam has been in deficit. There is a lot of talk going on about the monsoon. Hopefully, over the coming few days, the district is fairly compensated in terms of weather.”
Talking about the Retreating Monsoon, the official reading suggests that it has already hit Andhra Pradesh. However, Visakhapatnam is yet to see any effects. As per the weather forecasts, it is expected that Retreating Monsoon will begin in Visakhapatnam on Friday morning.
Due to the rainfall predicted, citizens of Visakhapatnam are advised to stay within their homes this weekend if they can.
