With an objective of increasing the flight movements from the Visakhapatnam International Airport, Airport Advisory Committee Chairman, and Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament (MP), MVV Satyanarayana, has planned more international flights from Vizag. In this endeavour, he sought the coordination of the airline operators to operate flights from Vizag to Bangkok, Dubai, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
On Wednesday, a meeting was held between the Airport Advisory members, Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry representatives, and members of the Andhra Pradesh Air Travellers Association (APATA). In the meeting, MVV Satyanarayana, informed that a meeting would be held with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Customs to take up cargo infrastructure facilities improvements at the Visakhapatnam International Airport. He also added that a dedicated meeting would be convened with the flight operators to resolve and ease their operations at the airport.
Reportedly, around 1,200 tonnes of cargo per month were moved to the Chennai and Hyderabad airport, for onward exports. With resolving, easing and improving the cargo operations facilities at the Visakhapatnam International Airport, it would benefit trade and add economic value for the State.
It could be noted that in 2021, the Visakhapatnam International Airport had made major fillips regarding infrastructure facilities. A new N5 taxiway and six additional parking stands were commissioned. The new taxi track was constructed to increase the operational capacity of the airport, by allowing it to run more international and national flights from Vizag in an hour. The commissioning of the new N5 taxi link at Visakhapatnam was a milestone achievement and heralded the much-awaited expansion of one of the busiest airports in Andhra Pradesh.
