With the comeback of the GVMC summer camp, it is irresistibly crucial to develop proper infrastructure in the city. So the state government is scheduling to come out with a multi sports complex at Gandigundam, Human Resource Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said.
Addressing the valedictory of the summer camp at Swarna Bharati indoor stadium on Tuesday, he said the state government was committed to encouraging sportsmen; citing the selection of badminton champion PV Sindhu as Deputy Collector of Andhra Pradesh.
Municipal Commissioner M Hari Narayanan said that in the 20-day camp coaching was given in 45 sports and games to 7564 students. Approximately Rs 50 lakh was spent with breakfast and T-shirts provided to students. Coaches were rewarded honorarium. Various associations and around 300 coaches were allied with the accomplishment of the camps in Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle and Bheemunipatnam.
Apart from this, students conducted a remarkable march-past. Cultural programmes were staged too.
MLAs PGVR Naidu and Palla Srinivasa Rao, MLC PVN Madhav, former MLA SA Rahaman and additional commissioner (general) M V VS Murthy were present at the event. GVMC Director (sports) Y Srinivasa Rao conducted the programme.
