“A decade ago, I had to shift to Vizag from Mumbai, owing to my father’s transfer. Having spent most of my childhood in Mumbai, initially, I was skeptical to move to a tier II city like Vizag. It took a lot of convincing from my parents to persuade me to move down South to the port city.
To be honest, my first few months in the city did not go too well as I hadn’t found any particular liking to it. However, once I started exploring it with my newly made friends, a fresh vibe took me over. While the calm and hassle-free lifestyle here made the adaptability easy, the serene beach atmosphere gave an overwhelming reason to fall head over heels for the city of destiny.
As the days past by, I grew more and more attached to Vizag and started loving everything about it. The nature trails, relatively cleaner environment, lower cost of living, and the less congested traffic, each aspect of this beautiful city struck a chord with me. From watching a movie at Jagadamba, to relishing the street food at MVP Colony
, to trolling along the beach road with a packet muri mixture, to going on long drives with friends, everything here has held a special sheen for me.In the past few years, I have probably turned into a true “Vizagite” and miss this city more than anything else when I travel to other places.
However, the recent trends of the growing pollution and traffic have caused a major worry in many citizens of Vizag. While it is appreciable that the city is taking rapid strides of development, I, like numerous others, sincerely hope that the city doesn’t lose its charm and continues to stand apart from the other major cities in the country.”
This is an opinion submitted to Yo! Vizag by Shiva Sai, who has been a resident of Vizag for the past 12 years.
