The body of MVVS Murthy is expected to reach Vizag by Saturday or Sunday evening. The date will be finalized depending on the documentation process with the Indian embassy in the US. The man was the Founder of GITAM and also a former MP from TDP.
Murthy, who was a popular educationalist, industrialist and philanthropist, was killed in a road accident in Alaska on Wednesday. Autopsy and other medical formalities were completed on Thursday and his body will be temporarily preserved before being sent to India.
Along with the 80-year-old, three others were also killed in the road mishap in Alaska. It was learned that the members visited the US to take part in the GITAM Alumni meet on 6 October.
Many politicians and eminent personalities expressed grief over the demise of MVVS Murthy. “ Dr Murthi was also one of the founder members of the Telugu Desam Party. His grandson, Sribharat married actor Balakrishna’s daughter Tejaswini in 2013. Minister for IT, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development in AP, Nara Lokesh took to social media to mourn the loss,” tweeted IT Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Lokesh.
Popularly known as ‘Gold Spot’ Murthy, he is widely regarded as one of the pioneers in transforming Vizag. From establishing numerous colleges to initiating several prestigious projects, Murthy stood as a torchbearer in many fields. He also served as a member of Lok Sabha from Visakhapatnam for two terms from 1991 to 1996 and 1999 to 2004.
