After inaugurating the Delhi End TB Summit at Vigyan Bhawan in the capital city, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a campaign to eradicate Tuberculosis from India by 2025. Mr. Narendra Modi launched the Tuberculosis Free India campaign to take the activities of National Strategic Plan (NSP) in a mission towards eradicating the disease from the country, five years ahead of the globally set deadline.
It has been reported that with a fund of Rs 12000 crore over the next three years, NSP aims at every TB patient having access to quality diagnosis, treatment, and support.
“A target has been set to end TB globally by 2030. I would like to announce that we have set an aim to eradicate it from India five years ahead by 2025,” PM Modi said at the event. “We have not been successful in curbing Tuberculosis yet. I believe that if something doesn’t yield result even after 10-15 years then we need to change our approach. The situation needs to be analysed,” he further added.
Mr. Narendra Modi said that the state governments must play a crucial role in eradicating tuberculosis and he has written to the Chief Ministers of all the states informing the same.
The Prime Minister also said that TB was one of the most prevalent among communicable diseases and the poor were the most affected by it.
The summit in New Delhi, hosted by Union Ministry of Health along with the WHO and the Stop TB Partnership, has witnessed top leaders from across the globe converge to participate in the event.
