Member of Parliament, Kambampati Haribabu, inaugurated two new escalators and other amenities at the Visakhapatnam Railway Station.
The new escalators have been added to improvise the facilities for senior citizens and patients.
The Visakhapatnam Railway Station, until the introduction of the two new escalators, has been constituting two escalators on Platform No.2/3 and 4/5 along with two lifts on Platform No. 6, 7 and 8. Established at a cost of 1.7 crores, the new elevators lie on platform no.1 and no.8.
To manage the footfall increase at the station, the central foot overbridge has been renovated at a cost of Rs 2 crore. Also, a plastic bottle crusher has been introduced to the station.
Plans of renovating the Visakhapatnam Railway Station are in progress as the Railway Board sanctions Rs 10 crore to the Waltair division of East Coast Railway (ECoR).
The Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs), as a part of renovating 70 railway stations in the country, has been ordered to send the necessary project report with architectural models.
From introducing modern art and new design to providing and developing amenities for seating and parking for passengers, the Railway Board has informed the officials to send a detailed report.
A month back, mechanised laundry has been inaugurated at the station. A total of 4,500-bedrolls, with each consisting of two blankets, a pillow cover, and one face towel, can be prepared in an 8-hour-shift. The cost of washing and pressing of each bedroll works out to ₹12.07. The laundry, established in an area of 20,000 sq ft, boasts of the best equipment in the world like washer-cum-extractor, flat ironer-cum-feeder, folder, and dryers.
