As cases continue to report, the AP State Government has decided that the ongoing night curfew will be extended for another week, i.e. till 21 August, in all the districts. The decision was announced on Sunday by the State Principal Secretary (Health) Anil Kumar Singhal IAS. According to the Principal Secretary (Health), the night curfew will continue to be from 10 pm – 6 am and the extended coronavirus disease (Covid-19-related) restrictions will continue to be in place. The night curfew was earlier extended till 14 August.
Any violation will attract action as per the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). All the Police Commissioners, Superintendents, and District Collectors have accordingly been instructed to strictly enforce all restrictions across the state. It has been observed that after the night curfew was extended in AP, there has been a drop in the number of cases in Vizag. The city is currently reporting less than 100 cases daily, which number is said to be quite less compared to other districts in the state. Keeping in view the looming threat of the third wave and the chances of a rise in cases again, the vaccination process has been expedited. Teachers are being vaccinated on a priority basis as the schools reopen from Monday. As of Sunday, 15 August 2021, a total of 1,53,773 positive cases have been reported in Vizag. Currently, there are 630 active cases of Covid-19 in the city.
Furthermore, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 and as a precaution against the third wave, timing restrictions have been imposed at the beaches in Vizag. No one is allowed to enter the beaches in the city after 5 PM on Saturday and Sunday. Strict action is being taken by the police and district officials on those who are violating these rules. As far as the night curfew is concerned, city police officials are on regular checks at major locations in the city after 10 pm, imposing fines on curfew violators.
