20 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) have been sanctioned for the Vizag district by the National Institution for Transforming India (Niti Aayog).
The workspace, ATL, help the young minds to work on their innovative ideas as the labs provide hands-on do-it-yourself kits.
While 5 schools have been selected privately, the rest of the schools selected are government and social welfare schools. Through the labs, a one time fund of Rs 10 Lakh and Rs 10 Lakh operational expenses would be provided for the schools over a period of five years. To spread the idea of innovations among students of class VI to XII, the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) has been launched. Different activities such as regional and national level competitions, exhibitions, lecture series, workshops, etc. at regular intervals would be conducted in the labs.
The Principal of Chaitanya Public School, Ukkunagaram, ENVSL Chandrika, said, “Representatives of the scheme visited the school to set up the ATL. We have to open a bank account as per their instructions to get the funds. The lab will provide a chance for the children to work with tools and equipment to understand the concepts of science and technology.”
