Dr. T Ravi Raju, a well-known nephrologist from Vizag and former Vice-Chancellor of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Society for Nephrology. This award was given to him for his contributions to the field of medical health care, medical education and administration.
This Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Raju at the annual conference of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), held in Chennai on Friday.
It is not the first time that this leading nephrologist from Vizag has been recognised for his work. In 2021, Dr. T Ravi Raju was the recipient of ‘Sardar Vallabhai Patel Award’ for services to the nation. The award was given to him by the Minister of Health and Welfare.
In 2018, he was bestowed with the honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), London. Dr. Raju was chosen for the degree in recognition of his research on Chronic Kidney Disease at Uddanam in Srikakulam District.
FRCP is an exceptional honour given to physicians of high eminence. In the United Kingdom, their suggestions are taken in the implementation of health policies, improvement of health standards, framing of guidelines for the treatment of various diseases, and conduct of medical exams.
Dr Raju, apart from serving as the Vice-Chancellor of NTRUHS, also served as a member of the governing body of the National Board of Examinations. While on this board, Dr Raju played a key role in introducing the online examinations for NEET and other super speciality courses. He also was instrumental in streamlining the curriculum and examinations for Diplomate of National Board (DNB) courses in India.
