Smugglers have found yet another way to smuggle marijuana [ganja] to places. The Visakhapatnam police was shocked that oil tankers are now being used to deliver ganja to different cities from the cultivating grounds. On Tuesday morning, personnel of the Visakhapatnam Rural police district intercepted an oil tanker and checked its contents and were amazed as they found 1200 kg of marijuana being transported. The tribal hills and the outskirts of Visakhapatnam called the Agency area are found out to be very fertile grounds for ganja cultivation and are also a major sourcing location for smugglers in south India. The smuggling happens most to the city of Chennai. Five smugglers were arrested with a consignment said to be of the street value Rs 50 lakh on Tuesday in the Guttulaputta area of Paderu mandal in the Visakhapatnam Agency. The smugglers collected the ganja from local farmers in the interior areas of G K Veedhi, G Madugula and other mandals. However, police received a tipoff about the illegal courier and caught up with the oil tanker in the Guttulaputta area. Circle inspector K Appalanaidu of Paderu said,”It isn’t yet known where the consignment was been transported to”.
