As a part of adopting stringent measures to maintain Vizag in a clean state and complying to the Swachh Bharat Mission guidelines and the provisions of Swachh Andhra Corporation for open defecation, the GVMC has passed a resolution to impose a fine of Rs 500 on open urination in the city.
Reportedly, the first violation would be charged Rs 500 while the second and third ones would be penalised for Rs 750 and Rs 1000 respectively.
Also, in accordance with the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 and Swachh Bharat guidelines, the authorities have decided to impose fines if the norms and regulations of the dry and wet waste are not followed.
All the apartments, gated communities, and industries (that generate waste on a large scale) will have to segregate their waste into dry and wet categories. While the wet waste will have to be disposed of in green bins, the dry waste should be collected in blue bins before handing over to the sanitary workers.
As per the resolution passed, non-compliance with these terms would lead to a fine of Rs 300 for the first violations, and Rs 500 and Rs 1000 for the second and third violations respectively.
The successful implementation of these steps are not only expected to do their bit in Swachh Survekshan but would also help in ensuing hygienic conditions in the city, which seems pivotal given the current rampage by dengue in Vizag.
