Student wings are not happy with the Telugu Desam Party conducting its Mahanadu at AU. They want to hold it at the AU Engineering Grounds & the student wings question how they could hold it there when the government had forbidden any political event to take place on the premises of educational institutions.
The AP State Council for Higher Education issued an order in 2015 that no college or educational premises can be used for political or religious purposes. The AU management had on multiple occasions denied many organisations on such grounds. But after reportedly looking at multiple places in the city, the TDP has shortlisted the AU Engineering Grounds to hold their plenary.
The Mahanadu event will be held from May 27 or 29. During Nara Lokesh’s visit to the city he visited AU to review the arrangements. The YSRCP student wing has now raised objections and even promised to approach the court if they decide to hold their plenary there. A letter has been put in by TDP city president Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar to AU for permission of the ground despite the opposition.
The VC stated that they have received the letter but are awaiting further instructions. AU has sent a letter to the government referring to the order and are awaiting their reply. City Congress party leader B Gopala Reddy has accused the AU management of violating norms by giving its premises to liquor auctions as well. R&B minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu however believes that people should cooperate as decisions can be taken in the interest of the state.
