Periavadagampatti in Tamil Nadu. Even after winning a gold medal, he hasn’t forgotten his roots.After winning the medal, the sports authority has announced a cash prize of Rs. 75 lakhs. Out of this money, Thangavelu has decided to donate a chunk to the government school he has studied in.He became the first Indian high jumper to win Gold and Varun Bhati won a Bronze medal in the same field.
Another victory for India was when Deepa Malik won a silver medal at Shot Put. She won silver with an impressive throw of 4.61m (15.12ft) in the F-53 final event. She became the first Indian woman to win in a Paralympics event.
