The Patanjali group, founded by Baba Ramdev, is looking to set up two mega food parks in the state, one in north coastal Andhra and the other in Nellore. They will also be setting up 66 food processing units here in the next three years. Andhra Pradesh Food Processing Society CEO YS Prasad stated that the two food parks will bring in an investment of Rs 700 crore and generate 10,000 jobs.
The Patanjali group approached the state government and requested that 200 acres be allocated for the purpose in north coastal Andhra. The land will be scouted by Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation. The group has bought 150 acres in Nellore.
The state government has offered Rs 50 crore incentives for mega food parks such as these and extended benefits under a central government assisted scheme for processing units.
Baba Ramdev also has plans to set up five high capacity food parks in Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Maharashtra. Patanjali is also launching an ambitious project worth more than Rs 2000 crore in Uttar Pradesh to integrate farmers to the markets. The group is launching Swadeshi jeans with an investment of Rs 1000 crore, 4 mega shelters for cows across India with an investment of Rs 500 crore and a Rs 750 crore grant for research on Ayurveda.
