About Cochlear Implant
In India, over 63 million people (6.3%) and 4 out of 1000 children suffer from hearing impairment. The Cochlear implant is considered as a viable option in eliminating the risk of associated health issues such as dementia and mental health. It can also boost up the confidence of the patient. These implants are best suited for children below 2 years and adults who have more than 70db hearing loss.
Self-detection of hearing impairment is difficult for both adults and children as the hearing loss would be at 60db to 70db and the auditory nerve would be damaged by the time the loss has been identified. The hearing aid is beneficial for any person with hearing loss from 40db to 90db.
A similar campaign, which was held last year to create an awareness regarding the cochlear implantation and benefits of early detection, was a success as it has helped 200 people with hearing aid and also 5 cochlear implants were done successfully by the Pinnacle Hospital.
