Postnatal mothers were handed out baby care kits by King George Hospital to help protect infants from infectious diseases and more. As a part of the Shishu Suraksha Yojana introduced by the Health, Medical and Family Welfare department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the programme works towards educating womenfolk on how to nurture newborns in a healthy environment.
The kits are being distributed as the women leave for home via the Talli Bidda Express that was introduced last year by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The Talli Bidda Express is a 102 call centre ambulance exclusive for pregnant women, with a response time of 10 minutes. The ambulance will both take the pregnant woman from home to hospital and drop her home after delivery.
The baby care kits being distributed, reported to be worth Rs 1000 each, contain liquid soap, towel and a soft baby bed amongst other products. 300 such kits were supplied by the Commissioner of Health, Medical and Family Welfare.
