President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind released a commemorative stamp in the honour of India’s First Submarine, INS Kalvari at Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam.
The occasion is a historic one and the President of India is in Visakhapatnam for the Golden Jubilee of the Submarine Arm of the Indian Navy. To mark the occasion, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, released a commemorative stamp in honour of Kalvari, the first ever submarine of Indian Navy at Eastern Naval Command, on 07 December 2017. Also present on the occasion were Shri ESL Narasimhan, Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Shri N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Union Minister of Aviation, Adm Sunil Lanba PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff and Vice Adm Karambir Singh Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command along with other senior Defence and Civilian dignitaries were present on the occasion.
This is the Golden Jubilee Year of Indian Navy’s Submarine Arm. It also marks the reincarnation of the first submarine ‘Kalvari’ which was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 08 Dec 1967. This is because the induction of new ‘Kalvari’ into the Indian Navy in 2017 is coinciding with the Submarine Arm completing 50 glorious years of Submarine Operations.
The President of India along with this has completed the auspicious event of the inauguration of the Tu-142m Aircraft Museum on Beach Road and visit to Andhra University.
