A case has been registered against internet sensation Priya Prakash Varrier’s song for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of a group. A group of Muslims in Hyderabad claimed that the lyrics of the song ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’, from the upcoming Malayalam film, ‘Oru Adaar Love’, when translated to English, hurt the sentiments of Muslims as it makes offending references to the Prophet. An FIR has been registered against Omar Lulu, the director of the film, by a few residents of Falaknuma in Hyderabad. The group demanded that the lyrics of the song should either be changed or the song is removed from the movie.
“It is not acceptable for us to see a romantic song picturised on some actors with lyrics of the song linked to the Prophet,” one of the complainants was quoted by TOI as saying.
A case has been registered based on the complaint under section 295 of the IPC. The police will, reportedly, take the opinion of Islamic scholars before proceeding further with the case. It has also been learned that the director and others will be summoned only if the cops feel there’s a need to consider this viewpoint.
‘Oru Adaar Love’, stars Siyadh Shajahan, Priya Prakash Varrier, and Noorin Shereef, and is slated for release on March 1 this year.
The song, which hit the internet a few days ago, took the digital world by storm. Priya Prakash Varrier turned into an overnight star and garnered a massive following on her social media portals within a span of few days and the 18-year-old, who has been termed as the “national crush”, has stolen the hearts of many across boundaries.
