Vizag raises united voice for murdered journalist, Gauri Lankesh

Journalists’ associations and people’s organisations staged a rally to protest the brutal murder of Gauri Lankesh. The rally which took place shows Vizag’s solidarity with the pan-India journalists community. The demand is to bring justice to the murdered journalist’s family and book the culprits. Organized on Thursday the rally pulled large numbers of conscious citizens for the public meeting.

The rally started started from Vizag Journalist’s Forum Center in Dabagardens, Vizag and culminated in front of Gandhi statue, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. A public meeting was organized including the CPM state secretariat member Ch. Narasinga Rao. He gave voice to the collective psyche of Vizag. Calling out to the inhuman act of murdering a conscious voice of the nation, he was the spokesperson for the outrage. The rally was organized by journalists but reflected the voice of the people.

The public meeting addressed the restrictions on the freedom of the press and the consequences one faces in public service. An attack was decried on the brutal attack. Leader Telugu daily newspaper’s editor VV Ramana Murthy presided over the meeting.

The rally in Vizag was one of the biggest organized all over India for seeking justice after the journalist Gauri Lankesh’s murder.
