In the recent past, there has been much speculation about Visakhapatnam being the headquarters of the proposed new railway zone. Reports surface now about the Union Minister for Urban Development, M Venkaiah Naidu, stating that Visakhapatnam will for sure be the new railway zone headquarters.
While speaking about his love and attachment to the city, and his association with it for 25 long years ever since he was a student of Andhra University, he stated that part of the funds sanctioned were already for the city. Funds had been sanctioned for the Vizag – Chennai Industrial Corridor, medical equipment manufacturing cluster and IIM Visakhapatnam.
A Krishi Vignan Kendra has also been sanctioned to the district and the foundation stone for the same will soon be laid at Chodavaram. The Visakhapatnam International Airport will also be developed further. MP K Haribabu said that a total of 12 institutions have been sanctioned for the district. He stated that hopefully the pending Tribal University and Railway Zone will soon be kick-started.
The Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas announced that a trauma care centre of level – 1 and a gynaecology centre will be inaugurated at the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences by Sankranthi. Seven more blocks will also be started there and a super block will be inaugurated at KGH.
