The city has received its first rain of the year, leaving Vizagites relieved. It’s mid-March and temperature in the city had already almost reached its peak – with the temperature and humidity increasing the last two days before it started drizzling.
It is yesterday that Vizag finally got some relief with an overcast sky all day and a drizzle that turned into mild rainfall in the evening. The usually soupy breeze from the sea also turned soothing, letting people enjoy the shower by the Beach Road.
The first summer rainfall reportedly occurred due to local developments favouring upper air cyclonic circulation over Chhattisgarh and Telangana. “These are normal occurrences during summer and we expect more such occurrences this year as the conditions are favourable”, a duty officer at CWC told The Hindu.
According to Accuweather, one can expect ‘Intervals of clouds and sunshine with a shower or thunderstorm around’ in the day and ‘Considerable cloudiness with spotty showers late’ tonight. Saturday predicts ‘A shower or thunderstorm; clouds in the morning, then periods of clouds and sun in the afternoon’.
So enjoy the drizzle and rain while it lasts, before we all go back to baking in the summer till monsoon again.
