Sensational filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is once again caught amidst a freshly brewed controversy. Popularly known as RGV, the director has caught the ire of the Telugu Desam Party cadre, after releasing the first song from his upcoming film, Lakshmi’s NTR.
The song, titled ‘Vennupotu’, has seemingly offended the party’s supporters and members, who have alleged that it was an attempt to defame TDP supremo and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
The agitated members took to the streets and warned Ram Gopal Varma by burning down his effigies. On Saturday, Kurnool MLA SV Mohan Reddy also filed a defamation complaint against the film director. The MLA alleged that the song was defaming Chandrababu Naidu, thereby degrading his reputation and image in general public.
“The meaning of the song conveys as if our Chandrababu Naidu had plotted a conspiracy and back stabbed Ex. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao. So kindly take necessary action against the maker of the movie, Ram Gopal Varma (sic).” Reddy said in his complaint to Kurnool II Town police. However, the police are yet to register an FIR based on the complaint filed by Reddy.
Reportedly, the politician also demanded that action must be taken against other technicians involved with the ‘objectionable’ song, including the music composer, singers and lyricists.
Lakshmi’s NTR is touted to be a biopic of the popular actor and politician, NT Rama Rao, and is expected to focus more on his personal life.
It is to be noted that yet another biopic of NTR, will be releasing in January. The film, directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, will be featuring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the titular role, and is touted to showcase NTR’s journey as an actor and a politician.
