Ramakrishna Beach in Vizag: Much more than a beach

Ramakrishna Beach is the tourist heart of Visakhapatnam. It is arguably the most popular beach in the city and why shouldn’t it be? After all, there are not many other beaches like this one in the world. This beach is famous for numerous reasons, which reflects in the crowds that gather here every evening.

Named after the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, that is located nearby, this nearly 3.7 km long beach is much more than a beach and has a lot to offer to its visitors. But let’s begin with what Ramakrishna Beach or RK Beach means to the people of Vizag.

RK Beach celebrating the history of Vizag

The name Ramakrishna Beach is found multiple times in the history of Vizag. Many historical events have taken place here. The beach also adorns remnants of the city’s past, like the World War II bunkers on the beach. Visakhapatnam Lighthouse is also situated nearby. Additionally, the beach celebrates the city’s history in multiple ways, starting off with the world-famous INS Kursura Submarine Museum. Its sister museum, TU 142 Aircraft Museum also adds to this list. The Victory At Sea Memorial stands as a testament to Vizag’s connection with the 1973 India-Pakistan War.

Tourism brings business

Then, we come to all that has come since. The beach and its surroundings have transformed significantly over the years. Only the sand and the sea have remained the same. 5-star hotels have come up, and countless number of restaurants and cafes along the RK Beach Road

. Not to forget the street food stalls.

Today, RK Beach is the preferred place to visit for many young Vizagites who want to grab a quick bite while relaxing with their friends.

Vizag from RK Beach

RK Beach is not just a tourist spot today. It is also a landmark that citizens regularly use to tell directions. The city view from RK Beach is unlike any other. You get to see the Visakhapatnam Port and Dolphin’s Nose Hill, one one side and Visakhapatnam Lighthouse on the other side. And when you come from the sea, you see a cascading mass of buildings all lining up with the shore. The sunset here is truly something not to miss out. But people, who come here for their morning yoga and jogging, also enjoy the rising sun.

If you have come to Vizag, do visit – RK Beach – during the day as well as in the evening. It’s a wonderful place and means a lot to the people of Vizag.
