TEDx Talks recently released the video of Rana Daggubati delivering a TED talk at an event in Hyderabad. The video, titled ‘Redefining Storytelling’, shows Rana talk about the journey of storytelling over the years.
The actor takes us on a journey starting from the Medieval ages to the contemporary age of Smartphones, Netflix and Amazon.
After starting off his speech by stating that artists played a huge role under a king’s rule, Rana moves on to inform that it was the Lumiere brothers who discovered cinema which was basically screening moving images on a screen. He then says that as technology started flourishing, India got into the art with its first feature film of Raja Harishchandra in 1913.
The actor mentions that fifty years later, his grandfather, Dr. Ramanaidu, who was initially a farmer in a village in Andhra Pradesh, had moved to Chennai to tell stories. Moving forward with his speech, Rana gives us a brief account of his production house’s journey while explaining the different aspects involved in the business.
Eventually, the speaker tells how the art of storytelling progressed with technology occupying the driver’s seat on this epic journey. Be it the invention of Television, or the internet, or even the advent of digital media, he says innovation has been quintessential in enhancing the art of storytelling over the years. In fact, Rana even says that while the artists enact or exhibit their skills to deliver the story to the audiences, it is technology and innovation that makes the entire idea materialise effectively.
The actor also cites the example of Bahubali to illustrate how important it is for different arts and ideas to chip in so as to facilitate an epic story. While concluding the speech, Rana emphasises this very fact and states people from different fields are required in order to tell better stories.
