Vizag protests against the rapes in Kathua and Unnao

Vizag, on Sunday, witnessed protests break out in the city, demanding justice for the rape victims in the recently reported cases of Unnao and Kathua.The latest happenings left everyone shattered and united people across the city to showcase their resentment.

Candlelight protest took place near the Ambedkar statue at Dwarakanagar in the evening by Mahila Chethana, Human Rights Forum, Muslim Minority Association, Chaitanya Mahila Sangam, Virasam, Atheist Society and Green Climate. Students who are a part of AISF participated in a rally led by Registrar V.Uma Maheswara Rao from Maddilapalem to the Gandhi statue near GVMC.

The protestants expressed their concerns over the lack of protection for women in the country despite several laws being formulated in the recent past. They also fumed over the organisations and people who rallied in favour of the alleged culprits involved in both the cases.

The ruthless and cruel incidents which took place recently in Kathua and Unnao have left the whole nation with huge dismay, insecurity and protests. The facts behind the incidents are raising questions in the minds of the people in regarding the security levels and safety of women and kids. Women across the country are asking for justice to be served right. People on social media are offering condolence to the victims’ families and protesting on a large scale.
