Telugu film industry gears up for the “give and take” of movies

2017 has comparatively been a successful year for Tollywood thus far. Ranging from Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi No 150 to Vijay Devarakonda’s Arjun Reddy, many movies have emerged as winners at the box office. These movies have not only attracted the audiences in the Telugu states but have also struck a chord with the movie lovers of other languages. Similarly, other film industries too have released some good movies which have gone popular all over the country. Given the high success ratio involved with the remake movies, we could be in for some exciting prospects in the coming days.

Tollywood’s Exports

Remakes have always been a popular trend in the film industry. Telugu films that have done well at the box office over the past years have garnered the attention of the movie-makers from other industries. Naga Chaitanya’s ‘100% Love’ which released in 2011 is being remade in Tamil with the name ‘100% Kadal’. Sukumar’s ‘Kumari 21F’, which released in 2015, was a small-budget film that made huge profits of margin. Reportedly, Kannada film-makers have bagged the rights of remaking this movie with Hebah Patel playing lead role once again. Another small budget film that created a rage at the box office was ‘Pelli choopulu’ which released in 2016. This new age “Rom-Com” is being remade into Tamil by ace director Gautham Menon. This year’s sensation, Arjun Reddy is also traveling to other states. Actor Vikram’s son, Dhruv will be playing the protagonist in the Tamil remake of this film which will be directed by Bala. The B-Town too is hoping to make this film in Hindi with Ranveer Singh replicating Vijay Devarakonda’s role.

Tollywood’s Imports

On the other hand, even Tollywood is aiming to remake some movies from other languages. Bollywood’s ‘Queen’, which even won a national award, will be soon made available for the Telugu audience. The film-makers have pinned Tamannaah to play the movie’s lead. As a matter of fact, even Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam film industries are making this story available for their respective audiences. If rumours are to be believed, a leading producer from Tollywood is trying to bag the rights from the Telugu remake of Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’. Tamil’s ‘Vedalam’ which had Ajith playing a don’s role, will also, reportedly, be remade into Telugu by Pawan Kalyan. Kollywood’s recent sensation, ‘Vikram Vedha’, has apparently impressed actor Venkatesh and got him into the thoughts of remaking this movie in Telugu. Other films from languages like Marathi and Malayalam will also be donning their Telugu avatars soon.
