The AP government is launching cashless transactions from today. The RTA (Regional Transport Authority) is introducing POS (point-of-sale) machines for the transactions. The transport department has procured 43 POS machines from SBI for the same.
The POS machines were recently distributed amongst all the RTA offices and check posts. The state government is looking to introduce cashless transactions in the district. Yesterday, a training programme was held for transport officials on how to use the POS machines.
The state government has instructed them to operate the POS machines for those wishing to pay by card, besides taking cash from people who wish to do so. The RTA deputy commissioner for Visakhapatnam said that in fact the state government had planned for POS machines earlier but the opportunity hadn’t presented itself till now.
In Visakhapatnam alone, an average of 1000 transactions per day are done, worth 3-7 lakhs per day. Now the transactions will be done using POS machines too. Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and East Godavari will begin cashless transactions from today. All the RTAs in the state collectively earn a revenue of 7 crore per day.
