Glass manufacturing giant Saint Gobain will soon be setting up its manufacturing unit in Visakhapatnam. The company will be establishing the unit at Atchyuthapuram with an estimated cost of Rs 2000 crores.
J Krishna Kishore, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB), while speaking at a seminar on unlocking the economic potential of Andhra Pradesh by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), AP branch, on Saturday, said that Andhra Pradesh has taken rapid strides, post the bifurcation in 2014. He informed that Siant Gobain currently has modern glass manufacturing unit at Sri Perambudur near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Stating that a similar model will be replicated here in Visakhapatnam, Mr. Kishore said that in due course, the capacity of the Visakhapatnam unit may be increased to exceed that of the Chennai unit.
As reported earlier, the manufacturing unit of Saint Gobain in Visakhapatnam, as per the company’s Detailed Project Planning (DPP), would offer direct employment to nearly 1300 people and indirect employment to about 500 people.
He further said that the authorities were planning to set up an electronics park on 1000 acres in the state, in addition to aiming towards setting up MSME parks in each of the 175 constituencies across Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Kishore also highlighted that the state was in for a few other major projects, including the 70,000 crores Adani Data Park in Visakhapatnam.
