Saint Gobain Managing Director, B Santhanam, on Monday, performed the groundbreaking ceremony at the Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for the company’s establishment in Vizag. Saint Gobain will be setting up a manufacturing unit in Rambilli mandal, with an estimated cost of Rs 2000 crores. At the event, Mr. Santhanam was joined by the company’s representatives and APIIC officials.
It may be noted that initially, the company was offered 164 acres of land at 84 lakhs per acre considering its manufacturing capabilities and employment opportunities. However, after negotiations, the government agreed to offer 180 acres of land in the Atchutapuram SEZ-2 at 60 lakhs per acre.
Reportedly, the manufacturing unit of Saint Gobain in Vizag, as per the company’s Detailed Project Planning (DPP), is likely to offer direct employment to nearly 1300 people and indirect employment to about 2500 people.
The upcoming unit in Vizag will be marking Saint Gobain India’s first establishment in Andhra Pradesh. Headquartered in Chennai, the company currently has units in Rajasthan and Gujarat. The company currently produces 300 tonnes of mirrors. Its unit near Bhiwadi in Rajasthan stands as the largest one in India.
