Singapore-based budget air carrier Scoot will be extending its services to the Indian cities of Vizag, Coimbatore and Trivandrum.
The Singapore Airlines owned subsidiary entered the Indian market in 2016 by flying flights from Chennai, Amritsar and Jaipur.
Reportedly, the airline’s flights to Trivandrum (5-times weekly) will commence from May 7 2019, and flights to Coimbatore (5-times weekly) and Visakhapatnam (3-times weekly) will start from October 27.
Earlier, it was reported that SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, might scrap its services in Vizag. Taking over SilkAir in the city, Scoot will now stand as the sole airline to operate direct non-stop flights between Singapore and Visakhapatnam and Trivandrum.
Last year saw a record surge in the air traffic through Vizag airport. With the tourism season peaking in addition to the multiple industrial meetings and international conferences, the city has witnessed a high inflow of passengers travelling through by air. It was reported that as many as 2.40 lakh passengers travelled via the city in October 2018.
Recently, the city also opened its doors to Thailand as AirAsia launched a 180-seater airbus from Vizag to Bangkok.
