At the 20 edition of the International Seafood Show being organised till tomorrow in Visakhapatnam, Minister of State and Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman said India is the seventh largest seafood exporter in the world. She credited the rising levels of entrepreneurship for the accomplishment. Organised by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) and Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI), the aim is to promote safe and sustainable Indian aquaculture.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was present among other dignitaries at the event. Technological advances, sustainable practices and ensuring the quality of seafood improves is the order of the day.
With the measures being taken, Visakhapatnam, that has retained the top spot as the leading exporter since the past seven years will continue to only grow. Visakhapatnam Port has state of the art facilities with Visakha Container Terminal Private Ltd. Rs 633 crore has been invested on the extension of the terminal. All shipping majors and service providers plan to focus on perishable cargo. Promoting seafood to Japan, European Union and the United States is the plan.
