Senior politician and Janasena Party candidate SPY Reddy passes away

Three-time Lok Sabha member and industrialist SPY Reddy passed away on Tuesday after suffering from a prolonged illness. Aged 69, the sitting MP from Nandyala and the candidate of Janasena Party in the polls held on 11 April, Reddy breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad.

SPY Reddy, who was suffering from kidney and heart-related ailments, was reportedly admitted to the hospital on 3 April. The senior politician is now survived by his wife and two daughters.

Reddy, who started his career from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai, went on to establish the Nandi group of companies in 1984. After contesting General Elections in 1991 on a BJP ticket, SPY Reddy was first elected to Lok Sabha in 2004 as a Congress candidate. He managed to retain the seat in 2009 and was re-elected in 2014 on a YSRCP ticket, after which he moved to TDP.

Several politicians, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and YSRCP Chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, have expressed grief over the politician’s death. “I am deeply saddened by the death of Nandyala MP SPY Reddy. I offer my condolences to his family members and pray for his soul to rest in peace,” tweeted Telugu Desam Party Chief N Chandrababu Naidu.

Expressing grief over SPY Reddy’s demise, Janasena Party Chief Pawan Kalyan wrote, “The death of Janasena’s candidate from Nandyala Lok Sabha seat, SPY Reddy, is deeply saddening. On behalf of myself and all the Janasainiks, I offer deep condolences to his family.” Pawan Kalyan further shared that when SPY Reddy had joined Janasena Party, it was deemed that his experience and the intention to serve the society would help the party’s cause.
