Siemens, one of the largest International industrial Manufacturing Company has established its Siemens Centre of Excellence (working labs) at the Andhra University in Vizag and would be inaugurated on August 23rd.
Known to be the first-of-its-kind in the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, the COE would be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu. The centre would help benefit the students in terms of academics and also in preparing a proper employment prospectus. Adding to this, the centre would not just be open for students in Andhra University, but also for students from other colleges in Vizag. While it is offered free for students inside the University, the other college students should be paying a nominal charge. The students who get trained in the labs will be offered certificates too.
While quoting to TOI, Andhra University vice-chancellor Professor G Nageswara Rao said, “The students will get hands-on training in manufacturing and other industrial domains.”
Rs 300 crore are provided by the German conglomerate to establish the COC. While Rs 60 Crore of equipment is delivered to Andhra University, the varsity will pitch in Rs 5 crore from its own funds. The main point would be Andhra University while five other universities or institutions would work under it.
Skill-based training would be provided in branches like industrial machinery, industrial automation, automotive, etc. It would be comprised of latest computer numerical and programmable logic controllers. Rapid prototyping machines, CNC milling and turning machines would also be a part of the equipment.
The centre constitutes of 15 special labs, to name a few, a robotics laboratory, instrumentation laboratory, prototype laboratory, CNC laboratory, etc.
