The officials in Vizag have been instructed by the Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana to complete the works of Smart city projects by the end of December.
Of the total 51 proposed Smart City projects, 17 of them with a cost of Rs 111 crores have been completed. While 10 projects costing Rs 314 crores are in progress, 9 projects are under tender and 6 are under detailed project report preparation. The works of the remaining projects which cost Rs 398 crores are yet to start.
Speaking about the urban houses, the Minister said that 4,120 houses out 4,780 have been constructed in the first phase. A total number of 57,495 houses have been sanctioned and MLAs are on terms of proposing another 25,000 to 30,000 more. Narayana mentioned that there has been some difficulty in finding the required land. The Cabinet has approved for land pooling and waiting for Government Orders.
Of the proposed 203 Anna Canteens, 60 have been inaugurated and 40 are under development. The Minister said that they are facing problems in catering food because of high demand. Chief Minister has promised the MLAs that more Anna Canteens would be set up if the present ones are maintained to the standards.
